Dubai: Dubai Municipality will be offering additional recreational facilities to the public by giving them access to an open-air theatre and playground at a government school during the evenings.
Abdullah Al Najar, Head of the Project Construction Section at the General Project Department of Dubai Municipality, said the civic body has just completed a Dh4.5 million project to revamp sports and recreational facilities at Al Wuheida Secondary School in Al Hamriya.
"These facilities, including a football field with natural grass, a basketball court, a volleyball court and a track field for jogging, can be used by residents in the area ... from 3pm to 11pm during weekdays and from 8am to midnight during weekends," said Al Najar.
He noted that the initiative is undertaken on an experimental basis and there are plans to provide similar facilities in a bid to enhance the number of available green spaces and recreational areas for the public.
Residential parks
The renovated facilities at the school also include an open-air theatre which can be used by residents to hold art, literature and cultural programmes.
The municipality builds and maintains residential parks across the city in line with its strategic plan.
This year, the civic body will undertake 109 landscape and beautification projects worth Dh463 million that include the development of six existing public parks.
