Sharjah: The Vice Chairperson of the Sharjah Business Women Council donated Dh1 million to American University of Sharjah (AUS) Pioneer Scholarship Fund, announced AUS Chancellor Winfred Thompson on Monday.

The donation will create more scholarship opportunities for students.

Dr Aisha Al Sayyar, who is a former Deputy Minister of Educational Activities at the Ministry of Education and the first woman to obtain a doctorate in the UAE, said the donation is one way of contributing towards the welfare of students.

“With this fund the university is providing infinite possibilities for young talent to access all sources of knowledge available in the 21 century. It will also enable them to become active and productive members of society who can reach the highest levels of knowledge in all fields,” said Al Sayyar, who is also Chair of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah American International School.

The mother of AUS Computer Science alumnae Fatima Nawwaf Fawwaz said AUS has turned into a leading higher education institute under the guidance of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

“It is really a great honour to contribute to this fund and support the education process at this leading institution of higher education in the region,” she said.
