Ras Al Khaimah: The Labour Department here on Moday instructed that emirate-based construction companies provide their labourers with well-equipped mobile chalets which they can use during the hottest part of the day, when they are banned from working during July and August.
Cold water and air-conditioning will be provided in the chalets.
Khamis Bilal, who heads the Labour Relations Section at the Labour Department, said firms should comply with the regulations to spare labourers from having to construct temporary unsafe shelters.
He stressed that the call to provide labourers with such accommodation was based on humanitarian grounds.
Companies which do not provide labourers with protection from the sun actually endanger their workers' lives, he added.
