Dubai: A device to capture floating garbage may soon be installed in Dubai Creek in an attempt to introduce technology to protect environment, particularly marine habitat.
"We are conducting [a] study to collect floating waste in the Dubai Creek at a single place and then disposing it off by means of a net," said Engineer Khalid Al Zahed, Director of Marine Projects Departments at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Marine Agency. The system will save time and effort in keeping the creek clean.
Near abra station
"Marine Agency is coordinating with one of the leading local companies to manufacture these garbage captures. Work is in hand to provide one trap shortly to be installed in the vicinity of an abra station in the creek," Al Zahed said.
He noted that commuters using abras, cargo boats and passenger cruise boats pollute the creek by dropping waste from boats.
"The waste spreads ... giving an ugly look to the creek," he said, adding that it takes considerable time to collect the floating waste by means of hand-held nets.
