Dubai: The Recycling Middle East 2008 conference opened at Al Marooj Rotana Hotel and Suites in Dubai on Wednesday.

The business forum, launched by His Excellency Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, runs until tomorrow.

Prominent industry experts are gathering to share their experiences and knowledge on the latest inclinations and technology in global recycling, as well as current environmental practices in the Middle East.

International Conference Director Tony Chan said: “The quantity of general waste generated from Dubai in 2007 was more than 3.5 million tonnes, and this figure is expected to rise over the years. As such we are pleased that Engineer Abdullah Rafia addressed this issue and shared how the city plans to reduce general waste in the emirate.”
