Dubai: Though the temperature is steadily rising, a dry spell over the UAE is helping make evenings very pleasant, the Dubai met office said on Wednesday.
The mercury will touch 40 degrees Celsius for the first time over the weekend but the humidity will still be very low, according to Dr S.K. Gupta, duty forecaster. "Anything below 60 per cent humidity is comfortable," he said.
Starting Thursday, the met office will include the comfort index in its forecast. In July and August when the South-West Monsoon hits the Indian states of Mumbai and Mangalore, the after effect is felt here as the winds bring the moisture over the Arabian Sea.
"The humidity shoots up to 75 per cent then and we warn of extreme stress when working in the open," said the forecaster. The index is based on the temperature, humidity and wind. Even if the temperature is high but the humidity is less, the comfort level will be 4, which is good, he said.
There are no strong winds and the waves are only 1 to 2 feet high. The night temperature is in the highs of 20s.
