Dubai: A UAE-based courier service has fully implemented eco-friendly courier pouches across its global network.
Aramex, which began phasing out all plastic bags at the beginning of the year, has now converted all of its express courier dispatches into eco-friendly, biodegradable pouches.
Raji Hattar, Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer at Aramex, said: "The switch to biodegradable pouches is yet another step forward for us as we move towards the use of environmentally friendly products in every aspect of our operations."
Made from recycled polythene, the new pouches include a special additive in the material which reduces the product's molecular weight, accelerating the disintegration process without affecting the packages' durability.
Aramex has also introduced an internal paper recycling project and recently launched a newspaper recycling project through Ruwwad, the company's sustainable community development initiative.
Earlier this year another UAE-based courier service, DHL Express, announced it was switching over to eco-friendly pouches.
