Dubai: Two men will each spend 25 years in jail for the murder and molestation of a worker.
Official records, which identified the Indian victim as S.L., didn't specify whether he was molested before or after the murder.
The Dubai Court of First Instance handed down life terms to a 37-year-old worker, M.B., and 40-year-old carpenter, A.K., both Indian. They will be deported after serving their punishment.
The Public Prosecution charged M.B. and A.K. with premeditatedly strangling and beating the victim to death in a sandy area.
They were also charged with assaulting the victim with a tool and smothering him with their hands until he died. They were additionally charged with sexually assaulting the victim under the influence of liquor.
Medical reports confirmed that the suspect was molested and that a piece of wood, which investigators found between his legs at the murder site, could have been inserted in his buttocks.
A 30-year-old Emirati first sergeant said in his statement to the public prosecution: "Sixteen policemen worked on gathering clues and information to help in identifying the killer. We asked the companies which operate close to where the body was found to report any absent workers.
"One of the companies reported that a worker living three kilometres from the murder site was absent. Initial investigations revealed that the DNA lifted from the absent worker's belongings matched the DNA which was lifted from the deceased's body and the crime scene."
The first sergeant confirmed that police identified the victim's identity later. "Further interrogation revealed that the carpenter was last seen hanging out with [the victim]. He confessed to killing the victim with M.B.'s collaboration," added the witness.
Police arrested the suspects, who confessed to their charges before the public prosecution.
