Ras Al Khaimah: An Emirati woman was run over by a heavy vehicle when she tried to save her nine-year-old daughter.
The 37-year-old woman was crossing Dhayya Road in Al Rams with her daughter, when, all of a sudden, the young child took fancy of something and turned back. The shocked mother looked back and saw her daughter in the middle of the road and a vehicle fast approaching, said Major Talal Saleh Al Shal, head of the Traffic Section at Al Rams Police Station.
The woman rushed to her daughter, grabbed her in the nick of time and threw her to the side of the road, but, unfortunately, she could not escape. The truck ran over her before the 53-year-old Asian driver could stop the vehicle.
Major Al Shal said the Emirati woman sustained serious injuries. Medics, who arrived at the scene, said the woman was alive, but in a very bad state. She was taken to Saqr Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit.
The woman was only concerned about her daughter and didn’t think twice before trying to save the child, said Major Al Shal.
Police arrested the driver and investigation is on.
