Dubai: Motorists parking on hard shoulder of the roads to catch a glimpse of the fire was stated as the reason behind traffic jams on Shaikh Zayed Road on Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, Deputy Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said traffic police issued a large number of fines to offending motorists who had parked their vehicles on the hard shoulder of the roads and went walking to see the fire.
He said the offending vehicles parked on hard shoulders were also towed away because they blocked traffic and prevented emergency vehicles from passing to get to the accident scene.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Mazroui said police had cordoned off the area and diverted traffic in coordination with the Organisation, Protective Security and Emergencies Department. They also evacuated the nearby buildings to the warehouses, especially a paints factory because of containing chemical flammable materials.
