Abu Dhabi: Distinguished vehicle number plates 6 and 430 will go under the hammeron Friday along with 98 other numbers, said a senior official.
Number six is the fourth single-digit number to go under the hammer by Abu Dhabi Police, and number 430 is a luxury plate, perfect for the front of a Ferrari F430, said Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Kamali, Director of the Privatisation and Investment Department at Abu Dhabi Police.
It is all for a good cause and people love to give to local charities, the director said. To date, more than $100 million (Dh367m) has been raised from the sale of 583 plates in seven auctions, with proceeds going towards building a world-class emergency and trauma care centre for victims of road accidents and other debilitating conditions, announced by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.
"We expect more than Dh10 million for number 6 because number 7 sold for Dh 11 million," said Abdullah Mattar, Managing Director of Emirates Auction which organises the auction on behalf of Abu Dhabi Police.
Talal Ali Mohammad Khouri, a businessman and member of the board of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, paid Dh11 million for number 7 in an auction held on 16 June 2007.
He made it into The Guinness Book of Records by paying Dh25.5 million for number 5 earlier. But, another businessman Saeed Khouri broke the record on February 16 by paying Dh 52.2 million for number 1 which attracted the attention of the international media.
Asides from number 6 and 430, other distinguished plates such as 36, 57, 86, 696, and 1991 are also going under the hammer tomorrow.
Emirates Auction, the official auctioneer for Abu Dhabi's Code 5 distinguished number plates, also holds the records for the top seven most expensive plates sold worldwide.
