Dubai: A host of famous authors from around the world will be in Dubai for the first Emirates Airline International Festival of Literature (EAIFL).

Paolo Coelho, adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, second Children’s Laureate Anne Fine and children’s writers Lynne Truss, Jeremy Strong and Lauren Child will be in attendance at the festival, which will be held between February 25 and March 1, 2009.

Dubai Cultural Council is supporting the festival and aims to attract authors, poets and translators from the Arab world.

EAIFL is headed by Isobel Abulhoul, director of regional bookstore chain Magrudy’s, and Bill Samuel, vice chair of London bookshop Foyles.

Isobel said: “This festival is the first of its kind in the Middle East to provide a showcase for authors from the region, as well as bringing internationally bestselling writers to a new audience.”

The festival is expected to be the literary equivalent of the Dubai International Film Festival.

It will also include Education Day – authors are expected to give lectures to students in Dubai.
