Dubai: More than 66,000kg of donations - including clothes, shoes and other needy stuff collected for children in Kenya from residents in Dubai - are due to be shipped on Tuesday.
Two vessels will leave Jebel Ali port for Mombassa. The shipments will then be taken by road to Nairobi.
Lola Lopez, charity worker and coordinator of Kenya Clothing Collection, said: "Words aren’t enough. I just wish I could take everybody with me to Kenya because that’s the reward. Putting clothes and shoes on children that have never had any is the reward. I really want to thank my volunteers, Al Naboodah which gave me a warehouse, staff and forklift trucks for six weeks, Royal Concrete Products, which has donated shipping and the people of Dubai for their generosity."
Gulf News reported on 19th March that the shipment was stuck in Dubai, after which Royal Concrete Products came to the rescue.
The donations will be distributed by the Muslim Education and Welfare Association (MEWA) Kenya, Save the Children UK and SOS Children’s Villages.
