Dubai: Police are warning people to be very cautious when dealing with chemical substances.

The call comes after Dubai Police's Forensic Sciences and Crime Science Department, examined a strange substance that was found in the stomach of an Asian man.

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Mattar Al Muhairi, acting director of the department, said experts from the department were able to determine the nature of a solid substance that was taken out of the Asian man's stomach after a surgery in Ras Al Khaimah.

He said Dubai Police's services are not confined to combatting crimes and revealing them, but spreading awareness among the public about their dangers.

Abdulrahman Al Shamsi, Head of the Criminal Chemistry Section, said the sample from the body had been examined and it turned out to contain Toluene and 1,6-hexane diisocyanates, in addition to substances resulting from thermal breakage of a solid material.

The materials were discovered using a number of advanced devices including an electronic scanner to check metals.

Dr Fouad Tarbeh, a poisons expert at the department, said all the substances found in the solid body are used in manufacturing glues, paints and welding materials and are dangerous when breathed, swallowed or come in contact with the skin. The substances also affect the digestive system.
