Dubai: Ministry of labour is to intensify its inspections across the country to ensure that the midday break rule is implemented, announced a senior official.

The midday break rule, halting outdoor work from 12.30pm to 3pm, takes effect from July 1 and ends on August 31.

Humaid Bin Deemas, acting undersecretary at the ministry, announcing the midday break rule for 2008 during a press conference said all inspectors will be out there to monitor midday break rule violators.

"We need to ensure that everybody adhere to the rule as we are keen to protect workers from the soaring heat of July and August," said Deemas.

More than 200 inspectors will be working in Dubai and the northern emirates, according to ministry statistics.

The midday break rule was adopted in 2005 to give labourers respite from work during the hottest part of the day during July and August.

Saqr Gobash, Minister of Labour, has issued a ministerial decision stipulating a total halt of outdoor work between 12.30pm to 3pm and companies that are caught violating the rule will be penalized.
