Dubai: Police are warning beachgoers to exercise caution as eight people have drowned in the past two months.
Major Abdullah Al Mazyood, Deputy Director of Ports Police Station, said eight people drowned, six in April and two in May, while two others were rescued from drowning during the past two months.
He said cases of people drowning increase during the summer as many people tend to visit the beaches. He said beachgoers must avoid swimming when the red flag is up and in places where there are no rescuers.
He called on those who do not know how to swim not to risk swimming in deep waters. Major Al Mazyood said the station seized four jet skis for two weeks after they were being used in areas close to swimmers.
