Dubai: Any reference to explosives or bomb threats made on flights or in UK airports are taken as serious threats. Remarks made in jest are also taken as serious threats and can result in long delays for passengers. These delays can occur because luggage has to be located and searched, and removed from the aircraft hold if it has already been loaded.
Current anti-terrorism laws stipulate that no liquids of above 100ml can be taken into the cabin. Jars or packets of baby food and children's medicine can be taken on, but has to be opened and tasted by security before the flight leaves. Any liquids of 100ml or less need to be carried in a transparent, re-sealable bag.
Hoax bomb threats are sometimes made by travellers who think they may miss their flights. Last month a German reporter made a fake bomb threat to try and delay his flight from Verona to Vienna.
