Dubai: Adults turned out to be more interested in seeing the latest Batman movie The Dark Knight than teenagers, according to a random survey.
"My husband and I are interested to watch the movie as we are familiar with the character since we were teenagers. But my children [both below 14] are not familiar with the character and they are not interested in watching the movie," said Mahasin Obaid.
The Saudi national said it's a "good family movie to watch but children might not be interested in it. They are surrounded by more imaginative characters such as Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia".
Palestinian Huda Hussam is interested in watching the film but thinks the plot is gradually developing into "a violent screenplay".
"I am watching it with my child because if I didn't I know he will be pressured by his peers to watch it," she said.
Michael, 11, and David Markson, 12, said while they are on their way to watch Wall-E, they heard of Batman but are not interested in watching it.
As for 19-year-old Preyia Philip, she said she can't wait to watch the movie as it is internationally reviewed to be one of the best movies of the year.
The Dark Knight is also considered to attract viewers partly because it is Christopher Nolan's follow-up to the fiercely adored Batman Begins and partly because it features Heath Ledger's last performance, as the Joker.
Release dates
The film was released on July 18 in North America, and on July 24 in the United Kingdom. Prior to its box office debut in North America, record number of tickets were sold in advance. Upon its release, the movie broke box office records for biggest opening day and biggest opening weekend.
Batman's primary conflicts in the film include his fight against his arch-nemesis the Joker (Heath Ledger) and his strained friendship with district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart).
