Dubai: Shoppers at Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall had a narrow escape on Sunday when two decorative panels fell from the ceiling at the building’s Egypt Court.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which occurred at approximately 2pm, but debris was left strewn across the floor and engineers are currently carrying out restoration work.
Mark Jones, Marketing Manager at Ibn Battuta Mall, told Gulf News it was fortunate nobody was injured in the accident but stressed it was an isolated incident.
“Initially a small piece of debris fell to the floor so we moved people away from the area; then around 10 to 15 minutes later the two larger panels came down. Engineers are checking the entire building to ensure no other panels are coming loose.”
Scaffolding has been erected at the Egypt Court, which remains closed to the public.
