Ras Al Khaimah: A Sri Lankan driver rescued on Sunday the daughter of his Emirati sponsor after a fire broke out in their home in Al Kharran area here.
A senior officer at the emirate's Civil Defence Department said the 28-year-old woman, identified as N.J., had been trapped in a room that she could not leave due to the spreading fire.
The 32-year-old Sri Lankan driver, identified as A.A., was in the house, and helped the trapped woman escape. The fire was then reported to the emirate's concerned authorities.
The man and the woman suffered breathing difficulties and the man also suffered moderate burns on his body.
He was taken to Saqr Hospital for treatment, whereas the woman was given the necessary first aid on the scene.
Fire fighting personnel put the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the house and the neighbours.
Rooms of the house were blackened with smoke and walls were cracked.
The emirate's Police initiated an investigation. An officer said the initial police investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
