Dubai: A Filipino guitarist has claimed that he forgot that he had in his possession 0.87 grams of marijuana, which he claimed he didn't have any intention to smuggle to or use in Dubai, Gulf News has learnt.
The authorities arrested lead guitarist, L.Z.T., for possessing two pieces of what primary investigations have revealed to be marijuana, weighing 0.21 grams and 0.66 grams, on December 4 at Dubai International Airport, chief prosecutor Mohammad Ali Rustom, who heads Bur Dubai's Second Public Prosecution said.
He said that the investigations continue and no date has been scheduled for his appearance in court yet.
"The anti-narcotics police found the 0.21 grams piece in his trousers' pocket and the 0.66 grams piece in his handbag... according to primary police questioning reports he admitted possessing the contraband substance but claimed that he mistakenly brought them with him without having any intention to use them in Dubai.
"The suspect has also confessed that he uses the same drug in the Philippines," said Rustom, whose jurisdiction also tackles crimes happening at Dubai International Airport.
Senior prosecutor Salim Al Qaidi is still questioning L.Z.T. who is currently detained at the airport detention centre pending the test results of his blood and urine, which were conducted at the anti-narcotic's criminal laboratory.
Rustom said the marijuana was sent for examination. The guitarist was then referred the Public Prosecution on December 5.
