Dubai:  Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, former minister of labour, was honoured by the ministry of labour on Thursday  for his achievements in developing the labour market and the ministry.

Saqr Saeed Gobash, appointed as minister of labour in the cabinet reshuffle in February, told the gathering that "many of Al Ka'abi's initiatives have had a profound impact on the labour market".

Al Ka'abi was appointed the minister of labour in November 2004 for the first time and stayed in this position until the recent cabinet reshuffle.

Al Ka'abi thanked the UAE leadership for their trust in him.

"I would like to bear all the responsibility for any mistakes done during my work as the minister of labour," said Al Ka'abi.

A short documentary on Al Ka'abi's achievements, such as the midday break for workers, was shown.
