Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, will help victims of a major fire that gutted Naif Souq in Dubai, a senior official said.
Shaikh Hamdan will help about 800 victims, mostly workers, said Dr. Ali Abdulla Al Kaabi, chairman of the board of directors of the UAE Red Crescent.
Al Kaabi was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference on Saturday to announce the Zayed International Humanitarian Award initiated by Shaikh Hamdan.
Al Kaabi did not mention the amount of money to help the fire victims. He said Shaikh Hamdan will extend his help through the supervision of UAE Red Crescent.
A major fire that broke out early on Wednesday had ravaged Naif Souq, one of the oldest markets in Dubai, which housed 183 shops selling ready made garments, toys and perfumes.
No one was killed or injured in the incident because the market was closed when the fire broke out. Traders and shop assistants, the majority of whom are from India and Pakistan, had told Gulf News they had lost everything in the fire.
