Abu Dhabi: The Federal National Council (FNC) has denounced blasphemous attacks on Islam and the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
It decried in a statement a Dutch far-right MP and creator of a film called Geert Wilders, which it describes as inciting hatred against Islam.
The statement said: "The FNC would like to remind people about international conventions on political and civil rights."
It reiterated that religious and racial incitement, which breeds violence and segregation, are banned.
The FNC lauded the stance by the global community, the EU parliament and the Dutch government and media against the release of the controversial film, urging them to sue the film's director and its creator. It also called on the UN to issue a resolution banning such incitement and to enact laws in each country to prevent the practices of extremists
The film has drawn condemnation from world leaders since it was released on the internet last week, with UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon labelling it "offensively anti-Islamic." Protests also took place in some Muslim countries.
