Abu Dhabi: The Sud-anese student who lost one eye, hair and suffered serious facial injuries, following third degree burns two years ago, arrived in the UAE yesterday on a treatment sponsorship offer from Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mub-arak, Honorary Chairperson of the Red Crescent Authority.
Sana Al Ameen Awad Al Kareem, 20, is a first year student at Juba University. She comes from Al Jezira state of Sudan. Sana will receive treatment in the United States and all costs will be paid by Shaikha Fatima.
Sana was received at the Abu Dhabi International Airport by Dr Ali Abdullah Al Ka'abi, board chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), Sudanese Ambassador Ahmad Jafar Abdul Kareem, and other senior officials.
End to sufferings
Al Ka'abi said Shaikha Fatima's initiative would put an end to the sufferings on Sana, adding that Shaikha Fatima instructed competent authorities to provide full healthcare to Sana, who would head as scheduled to the United States after two days to receive treatment.
On his part, the Sudanese envoy lauded the initiative of Shaikha Fatima, which is warmly welcomed by all Sudanese.
Sana praised the initiative of Shaikha Fatima, which she said "has given her hope and new lease of life", adding that her family members were extremely upbeat about the gesture.
Earlier the Arab satellite channel TVs telecast the ordeal of Sana and repercussions of the injuries on her education and future.
The 20-year-old girl thanked Shaikha Fatima before flying to the US to receive treatment. Full costs of the trip will be paid by Shaikha Fatima.
