Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority requested the public to give their feedback on a new food safety law that was announced recently.
"We want to engage all the stakeholders in the food sector in implementing the laws," said a senior official.
"We would like to implement the laws with openness and transparency. We want feedback from each and every body, including small businessmen who constitute 90 per cent of the food industry," said Dr Mariam Hareb, Executive Director, Policy and Regulation at the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA).
Engineer Rima H. Zu'mot, a consultant at the Authority, and Dr Mariam were speaking at a workshop yesterday for all stakeholders of the food sector to voice their comments on the new food safety law.
"The announced legislation is a primary one and we will try to incorporate the suggestions from the public," Rima said.
Six regulations and new guidelines have already been posted on ADFCA website: www.adfca.ae.
"If the stakeholders feel that the laws will make a negative impact on them, we will invite them for a workshop to discuss their feedback," said Dr Mariam.
The new law stipulates risk based approach to inspections, which will bring strict control on imported foods, said Rima.
Deal
ADFCA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Municipality to harmonise the food laws in both the emirates, said Dr Mariam.
"It is part of our strategy to harmonise our laws with our counterparts in other emirates," she said. "We will do similar interactions with our counterparts in other emirates, too."
