Dubai: For many of the thousands of visitors and new residents who come to Dubai their first interaction with local people is with either of two young Emirati women at counters 11 and 12 at the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD).

These two often try to greet visitors in their own language to make them feel comfortable, and are overjoyed when Chinese or Japanese visitors return their greeting.

"We deal with 200 different nationalities every day. Some speak our language and from others we pick up phrases of their language. With others we communicate with signs. At the end of the day we all understand each other," said Amnah Obaid Al Suwaidi.

She has been working at the service counter for the past four years and loves her job.

"We are at the forefront. We represent our country and provide all services they require to our customer," said Al Suwaidi.

She graduated from Dubai College of Technology in the IT field.

Al Suwaidi's partner at the counter is Fatima Ebrahim Al Smeeti.

One cannot help but notice how fast she works.

She says she is keen to make this one of the best customer service departments in the country.

"I notice during my work that people have various habits. With some nationalities, if a person wishes to apply for a visit visa for one his relatives, the whole family, the father, mother and the children come to the DNRD to apply," she said.
