Abu Dhabi: Expatriate federal and local government employees in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will begin on Sunday registering in the Population Register and ID Programme at the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA).
Darwish Al Zarouni, Director General of the EIDA, announced that the second phase of registration, which involves the registration of expatriate employees, begins on Sunday.
"Expatriates will be able to get identity cards as the second phase of registration began after the authority finished the registration of UAE citizens," Al Zarouni said.
He added that the first category is expatriate federal and local government employees in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and other categories would get the chance to get registered in the identity card programme later according to a timetable.
Al Zarouni urged employees in both emirates to rapidly get registered in the population register and identity card programme, which will facilitate the administrative procedures and ease the obtainment of government services.
The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) is an independent federal authority established by virtue of federal decree No. (2) of 2004.
It aims to enhance the UAE's development through its Population Register Programme, which includes establishing an accurate centralised database consisting of particulars and data of all UAE nationals and residents to be collected upon registration.
By providing a modern, multi-purposed and secure electronic identity card for the whole population in the country, the authority also promotes to facilitate the administrative procedures as well as ease the obtainment of government services.
EIDA's activities include:
- Establishing a comprehensive and continuously updated population register for the UAE.
- Networking the population register with other government and non-government systems.
- Providing a reliable system to verify personal identity through an identity card containing the individual’s personal data.
- Assuring security and confidentiality of personal data.
- Protecting UAE Nationals and residents from identity card theft.
- Creating new usage for the identity card as well as offering cardholders continuous updates on identity.
