Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday announced the death of Shaikh Nasser Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died last night when a helicopter carrying him crashed into the Arabian Gulf.
Three-day mourning
Shaikh Nasser was Shaikh Khalifa's brother.
The Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced three days official mourning. During this period, flags shall fly at half-mast.
Shaikh Nasser, who died at the age of 41, had graduated from Abu Dhabi Police Academy and held the rank of a lieutenant colonel.
Shaikh Nasser was an honorary member of Al Ain Sports and Cultural Club's board.
He awarded Esmail Mattar Dh1 million for scoring the winning goal in the 18th Gulf Cup last year.
During the mourning period, it will be business as usual at all federal and local government departments and the private sector, according to an authorised source at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs.
