Dubai: Dubai Municipality on Tuesday launched a public awareness campaign to prevent heat-related illnesses this summer.

Inaugurating the activities of the 10-day campaign at the Dubai Municipality main building Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of the Municipality, said many lives can be saved if people are made more aware about heat-related illnesses.

"Simple measures such as recognizing symptoms of heat stress and giving proper first aid to the victims can help save lives," he said.

Redha Hassan Salman, Director of Public Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, said the campaign, undertaken in co-operation with National Trading and Pharmaceutical Est. (NTPE), a group company of NTDE, will advise the public on first aid measures to be taken if somebody collapses due to heat exhaustion, like taking the person to a cool shaded area, fanning and providing cool electrolyte drinks.

Experts will educate people all over the city about prevention from heat-related hazards.
