Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Labour will undergo a major restructuring process to streamline the labour market, it was announced on Wednesday.
The move is in line with the instructions by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Saqr Gobash Saeed Gobash, Minister of Labour, said.
"The restructuring is proof of our commitment to accountability, transparency and our desire to be a proactive ministry," he said.
The Cabinet approved the restructuring draft project submitted earlier by the ministry, which is a vision that is shared by our internal staff and our leaders," Gobash said.
He pointed out that this will enhance the ministry's role as a legislative body that regulates the labour market. The restructuring includes introducing a new sector, which is tasked with planning and bolsters the ministry's ability to set policies and legislations. The sector includes departments for strategic planning, performance, standards and policies, excellence, market studies and governmental communication.
A supportive services sector will also be introduced to upgrade government services. Gobash said the new organisational structure involves two main sectors, including the labour affairs and labour inspection.
More emphasis has been given to the inspection sector with a commitment to hire more staff. The section will be divided into three regions: Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the northern emirates.
"All three divisions will follow the exact same policies across the country," the minister announced.
Eleven departments have been created in the ministry that will deal with specific issues. The new departments will mainly focus on strategic policies, orientation, public services, and inspection.
As a result of these changes, the ministry can boast of 21 departments that report to four executive managers, who report to a general manager. The general manager reports to the minister. The four executive managers will lead four sectors of services, inspection, strategic policies, and operations.
