Dubai: The charges against the president of the Republic of Sudan is fuelled by political stunt and does not include any substantial evidence, said the Ambassador of Sudan in the UAE.
The prosecutor of the world court sought an arrest warrant against President Omar Al Bashir on charges of genocide and war crimes in Darfur.
During a press conference held on Sunday in Dubai, Sudan officials said the move was unacceptable for a number of reasons.
International Criminal Court prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo accused Al Bashir of being behind attacks on three ethnic groups in the west Sudanese region of Darfur and requested an arrest warrant on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
"This session will handle the political and legislative point of views for the recent arrest warrant against our president. It is clear that the reason behind this arrest is political as the world is facing food crisis and Sudan is internationally known for its capacity to supply the entire food basket to the Arab world," said Ahmad Abdul Karim, consul of the Sudanese consulate in UAE.
