Khartoum: A UAE relief plane touched down here late on Sunday, carrying 40 tonnes of urgent aid to people displaced by floods in the Sudanese region of Blue Nile.

The plane was dispatched on the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The relief items, consisting of tents, blankets, medicines and foodstuff, were organised as per the instructions of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA).

The items will be distributed to the needy in conjunction with the UAE Embassy in Khartoum and Sudanese Red Crescent Society, said Dr Saleh Mussa Al Taei, RCA Secretary General.
