Asmara: A team led by the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and supported by the Emirates World Heart Group has performed a number of open heart surgeries at Arota hospital in the Eritrean capital.
The patients, including men, women, and the elderly are recovering and are in a healthy condition, according to the team of doctors who performed the operations.
A number of pediatric patients suffering from congenital heart disorders were also successfully operated on the team, which included doctors from the UAE, Eritrea, Egypt, Palestine, Britain and Canada. The surgeries are performed on poor patients as part of the humanitarian work carried out by the RCA.
Dr Adil Al Shamari, a UAE-based heart surgeon, chairman of the Emirates World Heart Group and head of the team, said that the patients will be able to leave the hospital within a few days and lead a normal life.
