Fujairah: Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami, Minister of Health, on Monday opened a new health centre at Wadi Al Sidr, a remote area near Dibba Al Fujairah and pledged more health services throughout the east coast.
Al Qutami was joined by Abdul Kareem Yahya, Yemeni Health minister, as the new medical centre was inaugurated.
The clinic will serve a population of 3,000 residents of Wadi Al Sidr and surrounding areas, some of whom had to previously travel 25 kilometers to the nearest medical centre for treatment.
It will have three general doctors, a dentist, 2 emergency treatment rooms and four beds equipped with heart resuscitation capabilities.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the new facilities, the minister said there will be more new medical facilities at other remote areas in the northern emirates over the coming few months.
Al Qutami also announced that the much maligned Qurrayah Medical centre, which stood empty ever since it was built three years ago, will finally be operational "by the end of the first week in May".
The minister said the new Women and Children Centre at Fujairah Hospital - another overdue medical facility - will also be opened within the coming weeks.
It is all part of the health ministry’s strategic goals to provide accessible and adequate health services to all UAE residents, said Al Qutami.
He said: "As part of that strategy, we are working to modernize Fujairah Hospital by adding more health services of specialist and rare conditions which, until now, people still have to travel to other emirates to receive."
Al Qutami also announced that a new ward dealing with heart-related conditions will soon be added at Fujairah Hospital.
