Dubai: The Municipality's Food Control Department turned down eight per cent of food shipments that arrived in Dubai ports in June.
It also destroyed some food which was unfit for human consumption, including dairy products, chocolate, chilled meats, biscuits, coffee, seafood, sweets and chemical food additives.
Eman Bastaki, Acting Director of the department, said the total number of food shipments that arrived in June was 8,909, out of which 7,807 were released and 716 were rejected, while 386 shipments were for re-export.
Eman added the Food Control Department helped make Dubai one of the safest cities in this field.
