Ras Al Khaimah: Hundreds of people attended the funeral of an Emirati police officer who died in a road accident on duty.
Rashid Al Musafiri was killed and his partner was injured while chasing a vehicle on the Emirates Road.
Relatives and friends of the deceased said Al Musafiri and an officer from Umm Al Quwain Police Department were on night duty when they spotted the vehicle carrying five people.
Sources said the two police officers instructed its driver to park by the roadside but the driver ignored them. The police patrol chased the car on the Emirates Road and the driver then switched off the car's headlights. The officers lost track of the vehicle.
The sources said the police patrol rammed into a pile of sand on the roadside and crashed against a heavy vehicle.
Major investigation
Al Musafiri, who was driving the car, died immediately. The police officers had reported the plate number of the suspected car and the full description of the passengers before the accident.
Umm Al Quwain Police Department in cooperation with its counterpart in Ras Al Khaimah began a major investigation in the case and issued a circular.
