Abu Dhabi: The UAE yesterday allowed Rim Banna, a popular Palestinian singer and composer, to enter the country on her Israeli travel documents and take part in a charity programme organised by Al Quds University Friends Committee.
"The UAE authorities showed a deep understanding of my case and gave me special permission to enter the country," she told Gulf News.
Banna is an Arab holding an Israeli passport. She said she has suffered a great deal because of her documents. "I'm not allowed to enter any Arab country," she said. "I am an artist and I know I might suffer when I go back home. Maybe I will be arrested or questioned."
Nazareth-based Rim will perform some of her popular songs which are inspired by the Palestinian people's culture, history and folklore.
The charity programme and dinner will be held tonight at Beach Rotana Hotels and Towers in Abu Dhabi which will raise funds for disadvantaged students attending Al Quds University. The dinner is held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
