Abu Dhabi: Tuesday is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, the UAE Moon Sighting Committee announced on Monday.
The committee, headed by Dr. Hadef Jua'an Al Daheri, Minister of Justice, was quoted by WAM as saying that after a number of legitimate measures, as well as several contacts with neighbouring countries, it was established that Tuesday is the first day of Shawwal and hence the first day of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE.
Al Daheri and the committee members extended greetings to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Their Highnesses Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates, and other leaders.
In Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia's Supreme Judicial Council has also announced that Tuesday is the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
According to a statement issued by the council on Monday, September 29 was the last day of Ramadan, and hence September 30 (Tuesday) is the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
The council said it had established that Monday marked the end of the month of Ramadan according to the lunar calendar.
Timings: Essential services
Timings for various services for the Eid Al Fitr:
Postal service: Main post offices in all the emirates will be open from 9am to 1pm during Eid holidays across the country.
In Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah a few key post offices other than the central offices will be open.
Post offices located in shopping malls will be open from 5pm to 9pm. The Dubai Airport post office will be open 24 hours.
Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department offices will remain open from September 29 to October 5 from 10 am to 1 pm.
Banks will remain closed for two days for Eid Al Fitr.
Stock markets will remain closed for five days from September 30 to October 4.
Schools and government departments will open on October 5. Emergency services in the hospitals will be available round-the-clock.
