Abu Dhabi: Journalists who are members of their local associations will automatically get membership in the UAE association, said the head of the Journalists Association based in Dubai.

The association welcomed three new members to its Abu Dhabi branch.

Mohammad Yousuf, head of the association, said the association is studying a suggestion from a British journalists union to accept its members automatically in the association.

Abdullah Rasheed, Ahmad Al Mansouri and Khadeja Al Kethari have won places in the Abu Dhabi branch of the Journalists Association following recent elections.

Fifty-three journalists in Abu Dhabi took part in the elections. Rasheed and Al Mansouri each won 31 votes and Khadeja received 24 votes. Eight people applied for the top three positions in the association. A date will be set for these elections.

Yousuf said there are 129 members in the Abu Dhabi branch. A new venue for the association will be open to all journalists in the city, who can use its facilities.

The association is open to journalists of all nationalities.
