Dubai: A fake report, titled 'Salary Increment to Private Sector', which was circulated via e-mail among thousands of residents across the country has been denied by Gulf News.
"It ia hoax story and totally fabricated," said Bassam Za'za, senior reporter at Gulf News whose byline was used.
Following hundreds of enquiries, Gulf News denied publishing the fake story on its web or its print copy.
The newspaper denounced the act and called on its readers and any recipient of an e-mailed story mentioning Gulf News not to fall for that because "it's a scam". The story was titled 'Salary Increment to Private Sector', bylined 'By Bassam Za'za', Senior Reporter', and dated 'March 10, 2008, 8:33'.
The hoax story read: "Dubai: As the daily schedules is In UAE, all LLC companies need to give minimum of 20% salary increment to all employees every six months as per latest bill passed. Finance Minister, has approved and it comes to immediate effect from 1st April 2008."
