Dubai: A police sniffer dog helped solve a parking lot killing where the victim was initially thought to have been run over by a bus.
As the probe progressed, police found the man had died of massive head injuries, most probably inflicted with a heavy stick. Detectives also found a shoe at the site of the accident which did not belong to the victim, and brought in a sniffer dog to help trace the owner.
A police officer testified they talked to several suspects nearby and the dog was able to identity the shoe's owner. The Court of First Instance heard an Indian blacksmith, who said he and his two friends were drinking in a parking lot when the victim came and asked to join in. Records show the blacksmith confessed to hitting the victim with a stick after a violent argument.
It is alleged the other two workers then dumped the body under the bus and left. The bus driver reversed over it. But forensic experts found that this was not the cause of death. The blacksmith was charged with premeditated murder and his two friends with aiding and abetting the murder and hiding the body.
