Dubai: The Red Bull drink sold in local markets is free of alcohol, a senior police official said.

Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Mattar Al Muhairi, Acting Director of Dubai Police’s Forensic Sciences and Crime Science Department, made the statement in response to an e-mail alleging alcohol in the drink.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Muhairi said the e-mail information dates back to a case that took place in 2002. Police had seized cans of the drink among other things. At that time, it was proved that Red Bull collected from the scene contained a percentage of alcohol.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Muhairi said the final test result ensures that the product is free of any alcoholic substance.

He said random samples were collected from various outlets in the local market for testing. "Dubai Police assures people its keenness to safeguard public interest and reveal facts," he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Muhairi called on the public to be careful and ensure authenticity in such issues and do not get carried away by reports on websites and blogs.
