Dubai A murder suspect was brought into court on his hospital bed on Tuesday - an unprecedented incident in the history of Dubai courts.
The 26-year-old Indian suspect sustained critical injuries following an accident while disposing of his victim's blood-soaked clothes, according to records.
"The deceased was the one who attacked me first... I tried to defend myself and I had no intention of ending his life," the suspect, S.N., told the Dubai Court of First Instance while on his hospital bed.
S.N. was taken to Rashid Hospital after he was critically injured in a car crash when returning from Hatta where it is alleged he got rid of his compatriot victim's M.S., clothes and the murder weapon (a knife).
When Presiding Judge Saeed Salem Bin Sarm reread the charge to the suspect, S.N. repeatedly said: "I didn't mean to kill him... it was self-defence."
S.N., who works as a janitor at an elite hotel, was charged with knifing M.S. and battering him with a hockey stick after he discovered that "they had proposed to the same woman" according to records.
