Dubai:  A tailor has denied robbing Dh5,000 from a fish vendor after she asked him to deliver 20 kilograms of fish.

The 36-year-old Pakistani vendor said the woman phoned him about 4.30am and asked to buy 20 kilograms of king fish which she asked him to drop it to Hor Al Anz at sunset.

The Public Prosecution charged the 34-year-old Moroccan tailor along with two other suspects with stealing Dh5,000 from the vendor.

They were charged with luring him to drop off the fish consignment to the woman before they beat and robbed him in a poorly lit street.

The suspect, identified as K.L. denied her charges and pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday.

Testimony

The fish vendor testified during the Public Prosecution questioning and said, "The woman visited me at the fish market four days prior to the incident. Then she phoned me that morning and asked me to deliver the Dh500 worth of fish to her house. She arrived along with two other Arab looking men. I placed the fish in the rear trunk and jumped into their car.

He explained, "She asked me for Dh100 to buy prepaid phone cards and I gave her. They stopped at a gas station from where she bought the telephone card ... later they stopped in a sandy area where they stole my money from my wallet ... they even beat and kicked me and threw me out of the car before driving off."

Police tracked the woman's mobile phone number and brought her in for questioning. The suspect identified the woman in the police line up three times.
