Dubai: A court has reduced a minibus driver's charge from premeditated murder to accidental death after he ran over a young man and killed him.

It also reduced his 15-year jail term to three years. The Dubai Court of Appeal reduced the charges after it found that 32-year-old Pakistani driver, M.K., accidentally killed the Emirati man.

Blood money

The court ordered him to pay Dh200,000 blood money to the victim's family and fined him Dh3,000.

M.K. denied the charge and said in his defence that he did not intentionally kill the victim. "I ran over him after he suddenly appeared in the middle of the road. I tried to avoid him but failed," he said.
