Dubai: A visitor is on trial for offering a bribe, including a $1 bill, to a policeman to let him go after he caught him drinking liquor.
The 23-year-old Filipino visitor pleaded not guilty to offering a bribe before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspect, identified as R.F., with offering to pay Dh515 plus $1 [about Dh3.67] in a bribe to a policeman who caught him drunk. He was also charged with consuming liquor.
When Presiding Judge Abdul Majid Al Nezamy confronted him with his charges, the suspect denied the first charge and confessed to the second one.
A witness claimed that he saw and heard the suspect taking aside the duty officer and offering the bribe.
