Dubai: A cleaner who walked out of a flat with two rings which he had found in the bathroom has been charged with theft.
Records said the 30-year-old Indian cleaner confessed that he walked out of the flat wearing the rings without the British victim noticing.
When he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday, he denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.
The Public Prosecution charged the cleaner, identified as S.I., with stealing the British female employee's two diamond plated rings and Dh2,000 in cash.
"The suspect came to me at around 10am to clean my flat on Shaikh Zayed Road... he finished cleaning and left after three hours. Sometime in the evening I discovered that the rings were missing as I had left them in the washroom. Some cash was also missing. I reported the matter to the police," the 31-year-old Briton testified in her statement to the Public Prosecution.
Police summoned the worker for questioning and he confessed that when he cleaned the house he saw a gold ring on the sink so he wore it and continued working for a while and left without the victim noticing what had happened.
A verdict will be given soon.
