Dubai: Three men landed behind bars for beating up a deliveryman and stealing a fast food meal from him plus Dh130, a court ruled on Monday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the two Pakistani students, 18-year-old S.H. and 19-year-old M.A., and 24-year-old Bahraini, H.A., to three months in jail.
A fourth teenager is being tried before the Dubai Juveniles Court for aiding and abetting the other three.
The Public Prosecution charged them with tricking the Indian deliveryman into delivering a food order worth Dh80, beating and robbing him of Dh130 plus the meal.
The Pakistani and Bahraini defendants denied the charges and pleaded not guilty before the court.
The 21-year-old deliveryman, A.T., testified: "One of the suspects telephoned the restaurant and ordered a fast food meal worth Dh80 and they asked me to bring Dh500 change... I reached the place but forgot to take the change.
"I delivered the food basket, then they stole my wallet and beat me after I informed them that I forgot to bring the change." The victim identified the defendants at the line-up after the police arrested them.
