Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested a man who specialised in robbing money and jewellery from shops in various areas of Dubai.

Various police stations have received reports of thefts from some car rental agencies and shops in Naif, Al Rifa’a, Al Muraqabat and Al Rashidiyah.

They all reported that unknown people broke into the shops by breaking the door locks, sneaking in and stealing money and jewellery after breaking the lockers.

The last report was received by Al Rifa’a Police Station about an electronics establishment being robbed in the market area.

The director of the establishment discovered the theft when he came in the morning and found the door open. He found the items inside the shop scattered, with two computer screens missing in addition to a laptop.

Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) formed teams to follow up the thefts and arrest the robbers.

On May 1, the CID received information about the arrest of an Asian man, S.M, in the Naif area for illegally residing in the country.

He was brought in for questioning, following which he confessed to committing the thefts at eight shops after he was faced with evidence of his involvement.

He was then referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
